High School – Football, Basketball, Track and Field
College – Division II Decathlete
Since College – I have been a coach for my entire adult life and have spent the majority of my years coaching high school track and field at Grove City High School. Since obtaining my CrossFit Certificate, I began with one-on-one training at a local gym facility and soon started managing a fitness program at a local juvenile treatment facility for at-risk boys. After finding success in all of those venues, I opened up CrossFit Grove City in August of 2014.
After competitive sports, I was looking for something to give me a sense of competition and motivation. CrossFit has filled those holes and has helped me set and reach many of my fitness goals. I am stronger now than I have ever been. And as an example of my increase in fitness, I have improved my standing vertical by 6 inches since starting CrossFit!
I assist with the care of the facility, promotions and assist with class instruction. I have a strong focus on Olympic weightlifting and tend to be the most helpful with athletes looking to progress in the snatch and clean and jerk.
Growing up playing baseball and soccer. Kept out of high school sports due to right and left knee surgeries, doctor recommended staying away from any high impact movements and not to lift heavy in fear of re-injury. I found myself wanting to get back into shape as I recovered and couldn’t get anything to work for me.
Honestly the most experience I had before getting into Crossfit back at Tried and True (a CrossFit box in my hometown), was making my way through the local Planet Fitness with a high school friend. I had never set foot really in a weight room or had ever squatted with a barbell. I’ve always had naturally good mobility and found myself a fast learner. The things that keeps me into Crossfit the most is the variation and how easily the strength and confidence gains transfer into everyday life outside of the box.
I assist with the care of the facility, promotions and assist with class instruction. My best strength is my mental toughness. I might look unapproachable but I am really easy to get along with and have a great sense of humor. If I sometimes look too serious, it’s because I’m either mapping out my training or thinking about food!
All year round athlete in high school (cross-country, soccer, basketball, softball). Slippery Rock University athlete (softball). I stayed in shape by running endless amounts in high school, then started lifting in college. During college I became really bored with the regular gym style lifting regimen so I contacted Mario and fell in love with CrossFit.
The constantly varied functional workouts are a new challenge everyday. Also, the box community is a big game changer compared to a normal gym setting, I love the competitive/supportive atmosphere CrossFit brings. Lastly, I love how CrossFit can help anyone because it is scalable for any age/ability so anyone can become successful while still being challenged.
